ITINERARY
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Meet in the morning on arrival at the airport. Visit the Genocide Mausoleum. Lunch in town. Follow the road as it climbs to the base of the majestic volcanoes, with spectacular views across the five peaks. Continue toward Volcanoes NP.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes, Rwanda
As the first light of dawn breaks through the curtain of mist clinging to the summits of Karisimbi, Bisoke, Sabyinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura, we make our way into the Volcanoes National Park. Tracking the gorillas through the unique vegetation can take several hours of challenging walking in wet and muddy conditions. To see a gorilla, the trek will have been worth the hardship.
Day 3: Dian Fossey Hike – Lake Kivu
Trekking to the Dian Fossey Tomb is one of the most sought after safari activities carried out while visiting Volcanoes national park for a gorilla trip. The trek involves a 30 minutes drive from the park headquarters to the trail head to access the Karisoke research camp where visitors walk for 10 minutes to the park boundary.
The walk from the park boundary to the research center where the Dian’s grave is, takes about an hour to 1 hour and a half hours and affords good views of forest hogs, forest elephants, a variety of primates and bird species.
This hike is an incredible experience physically, emotionally and intellectually. It is so inspiring to learn about someone who was so dedicated and left a legacy that exists even today. The hike involves moving through the forests and hiking up the slopes and therefore requires some relative degree of fitness and patience.
At the site you will find the house from where Dian Fossey was mysteriously murdered in 1985 but the more peaceful is the place where she was buried just next to her favorite gorilla friend, Digit and about 20 other mountain gorillas either killed by poachers or suffered death for other reasons.
Day 4: Lake Kivu to Kigali to Bwindi forest, Uganda
Enjoy during the early morning hours the peaceful atmosphere of the calm and pristine waters of Africa’s highest lake. Transfer to Bwindi in the South Western Uganda with an en-route packed lunch, arriving at your lodge late evening for dinner & Overnight.
Day 5: Mountain Gorillas, Uganda
Tracking the gorillas through the unique vegetation can take several hours of challenging walking in wet, muddy conditions. To see a gorilla at the end of it, certainly makes the trek worthwhile. Overnight near to the park
Day 6: Lake Mburo National Park
Today after your relaxed breakfast, you will transfer to Lake Mburo national Park via the second largest city in Uganda “Mbarara City” having scenic views of the Kabale hills. Mburo the smallest park in Uganda, however one of the interesting parks with zebras, buffalos, giraffes, hippos, impalas, topi etc. and a great park for bird watchers.
Day 7: Lake Mburo to Entebbe
After your morning breakfast, you have a nature walk with a game ranger, thereafter you will transfer to Entebbe via the equator and have lunch before proceeding to the airport for your flight to Serengeti.
